In 1971, as part of a 20-strong artists' collective in Brent, North London, John was at the forefront of demonstrations against prime minister Edward Heath's Industrial Relations Bill, which aimed to restrict the powers of trade unions and limit strike action.

He and two fellow artists were commissioned by the print unions to create a series of silk screen-printed posters depicting "20th Century Heroes" including Tarzan, James Bond, Superman and GI Joe.

I think my proudest moment was the following day, when the posters were in just about every newspaper that carried news of the marches," he remembers.
