Flying Colours, Fascinating Forms

Based on a banner made by John years ago for Hamsterley Colliery Lodge, this painting was created in response to the theme of an exhibition to be held at the Assembly House, Norwich, in August 2011.

"For me, one of the obvious sources of flying colours was a miners' banner," John explained. "It is a meticulous representation of a banner, coupled with a kind of chunky realism and it's quite a nostalgic painting for me as it is a return to what I used to do."

Featuring 2D and 3D art from Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, Flying Colours, Fascinating Forms is at the Assembly House, Norwich, from August 1st-31st. For more information, visit
